Illumination – Immersive Ballet where light becomes choreography and technology becomes poetry, exploring the boundaries between movement, light, and immersive sound.

Illumination was created in collaboration between Teatr Rozbark and RED PRODUCERS, directed by Alexey Torgunakow — former ballet master of the Bolshoi Theatre, choreographer, and movement director based in Paris. It is an international project in which Karo Glazer was invited by Torgunakow to compose the original score — written in immersive sound, designed not only to accompany dance, but to hold equal emotional and narrative power.

The performance explores the eternal human pursuit of happiness and self-understanding.Its philosophical foundation draws from Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, where illumination — the act of leaving the shadows for the light — becomes a metaphor for enlightenment and the awakening of the soul.Similarly, the ancient Egyptian Book of Emerging Forth into the Light inspired the work’s spiritual dimension — a journey through darkness toward divine transformation, where the soul rises from the tomb to travel across the sky with the Sun God, Ra.

For Torgunakow, these ancient texts reflect a universal human need for transcendence — the tension between the physical body, the mind, and the hidden depth of the soul.He sees dance as a form of liberation, a physical gateway to altered consciousness — a way to touch clarity, light, and spiritual awakening.Through motion, light, and sound, Illumination becomes not just a ballet, but a contemporary ritual of self-discovery — where art and technology merge to awaken the essence of being.

For Karo Glazer, the music of Illumination was designed to surround, captivate, and hold tension from the very first moment until the last.Even silence was not silent — it, too, was immersive, alive, and physical, wrapping around the audience like an invisible layer of sound. Her score became the unseen stage — a sonic architecture encircling the dancers and shaping every emotion on stage.

The composition followed a classical form, with an overture and intermezzos, yet every element was performed exclusively by Karo Glazer herself.Built upon the raw power of her voice — transformed, layered, and sculpted through sound design — the music carried both intimacy and immensity, allowing the audience to feel rather than merely listen. No other musician placed a single note in this work; every sound, resonance, and breath belonged to her.

From a technical perspective, Illumination was one of the most technologically demanding productions in RED PRODUCERS’ history. It required precise real-time synchronization of sound, lighting, and live performance — with advanced audio systems built to achieve a truly special-format, fully immersive sound experience. The integration of live dancers, light design, and surround audio demanded a custom-engineered setup, overseen by Michał “Rosa” Rosicki, who was responsible for the immersive sound architecture and real-time synchronization.

The premiere received an overwhelming ovation, and Illumination has since become one of the signature works of RED PRODUCERS — a project that perfectly embodies the fusion of art, emotion, and immersive technology.
